| PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life’s work to the civil rights movement throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the effort that resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act which guaranteed all citizens the right to vote, regardless of race, and resulted in the 15th Amendment to our Constitution; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s messages of activism, nonviolence and equality continue to resonate throughout our Stratford community and inspire the passionate and dedicated work of so many; and
WHEREAS; the Stratford community continues the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the hope that “one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self evident; that all men are created equal.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor, ask all members of our Stratford community to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s service through their own public service contributions.
