We Need Volunteers! Become a Public Health Emergency Volunteer Join our Medical Reserve Corps! | The Mass Dispensing Area #12 (Stratford, Trumbull, and Monroe) has been organized into a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The MRC program was created after the President’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. The MRC is comprised of organized medical, non-medical, and public health professionals who serve as volunteers to respond to natural disasters and emergencies. These volunteers assist communities during emergencies and for ongoing efforts in public health. Sponsored by the Office of the U.S.Surgeon General, MRC is a component of the President’s Citizen Corps. The Stratford-Trumbull-Monroe MRC is operated by the Stratford Health Department and Trumbull-Monroe Health District. Our MRC is currently focused on preparing for and responding to local public health emergencies. Although “medical” is in our name, membership is NOT limited to medical personnel. All aspects of planning, establishing, and operating a Point of Dispensing, or "POD," requires assistance from our MRC volunteers. Our plans specifically state that the MRC is a critical component to supplementing public health staff in all aspects of the operation. This includes everything from medical clinicians to individuals to manage supplies and other aspects of logistics. Volunteers who receive additional training may also be placed in various leadership roles. Whatever skills and experience you bring, chances are we can use them in our MRC!
More information on the MRC program nationally can be found at www.medicalreservecorps.gov. Existing MRC Members: Get access to a vast collection of training resources! For more information, contact the Stratford Health Department at (203) 385-4090.
