All program registrations take place at the Recreation Office at Short Beach Park unless noted in the description. All Programs Subject To Change. Non residents may take particular classes at an additional $5 fee.
Adults are now $2 per swim and youth under 18 and senior citizens 65 and over are $1.

Water Safety and Education
Swimming instructions in all levels of swimming will be offered for all ages at Flood Pool. Fee per session is $25 for half hour lessons and $30 for hour lessons. Registration is at the Recreation Office at Short Beach Park. All Levels and Parent & Tot class registration is also online. Click on Program Registration on the home page. You must have a user id and password which you can obtain by calling the Recreation Office at 385-4052.

Summer Flood Pool Swim Lessons - 511260 Section 01-20
Registration at Recreation Dept Office at Short Beach Park for first session or online starting at 6:00 pm. User name and password required. Contact the office at 385-4052.
Fee per session is $25 for half hour lessons and $30 for hour lessons. No mail-in registrations will be accepted. Wait List registration only will be accepted on the first day of class.

Evening Swim Lessons 511260 Section 90-96
Evening lessons will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 6 weeks from 6:00-8:00pm. The session is June 29-July 29. Registration is June 22 online or at Short Beach Park from 6:00-7:00pm. Fee is $25 for half hour lessons and $30 for hour lessons. No mail-in registrations will be accepted.
Beach Lifeguards at Short and Long Beach
Short and Long Beach will have lifeguards on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning June 19 through Labor Day.
To insure the safety of all who attend our beaches several rules must be adhered to:
- Swimming is permitted in patrolled areas only
- No floatation devices are permitted on the beaches
- No swimming in the channel is allowed
- Pets and glass bottles are not allowed
- Bathing suits are required.
- No Boats or Windsurfers are allowed in patrolled areas
These lessons are designed for adults who have minimal or no swimming experience. Class is on Monday and Wednesdays from January 11-February 10 from 7-7:30 or 7:30-8 pm. Registration is January 4-8 at Short Beach. Fee is $30. A second session is March 1-March 31 with registration February 22-26. Third session is April 19-May 19 with registration is April 5-9.
Aquarobics 541180 Section 03, 04
A low-impact aerobic class performed in shoulder-depth water on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Flood Pool at 8:00 – 8:45pm. The 45-minute class is for adults only and will be January 4 – March 10. The fee is $60. The registration is through January 1. Class size is limited. The second session will be March 22 – May 12. Registration will be March 1 – 19.

Flood Pool is handicapped accessible with a hydraulic lift chair. For additional information call the Recreation office. Flood Pool is available to rent for Birthday Parties. Call 385-4052 for information.

Lifeguard Training Course
The Red Cross Lifeguarding Course starts February 11 at Flood Pool. Class will be held on February 11-March 9, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The fee is $200. Participants must buy the books and their own pocket mask from the Red Cross. Registration is through February 5.
Water Safety Instructor Course
The Red Cross Water Safety Instructors Course starts April 5 at Flood Pool. Class will be held on Monday and Wednesdays from 6:00-9:00 pm and Saturdays from 9-1 pm. The cost of the class is $225. Participants must buy the books from the Red Cross. Registration is March 1-March 31.
Youth Swim Lessons at Comfort Suites
Swim Lessons for pre-beginner and level 1 only will be offered at Comfort Suites pool beginning January 11. Classes will be on Monday and Wednesday from 2-4 pm in 1/2 hour intervals. The 10 class session is $30. Registration is January 4-8 at the Recreation Department office. Class size is limited. Second session is March 1 with registration February 22-26. There is no class on January 18, February 15.
School Fun Nights
The Recreation Department will plan with the school group, a fun night of swimming, sports and games at Flood School. Open to all schools. Call 385-4052 for information.
Longbrook Wading Pool
Open daily from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for boys and girls up to age 9 beginning July 4 through Labor Day. THE POOL IS CLOSED FROM 1 - 1:30 PM FOR LUNCH
Boating Class 421340 Section 41, 42
The Recreation Department will offer the Connecticut Boat & Personal Watercraft Certification Course. The Course will be held March 8, 10 and 15 from 6-9pm at the Baldwin Center with registration February 22-March 5. This three-session 9 hour course, taught by Professional Marine Education, provides a certificate of completion as partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation, which includes the Safe Boating Certificate. Upon successful completion of the course, the student can mail or deliver the diploma to any State DEP office, and combined with an application for certificate (provided) and appropriate fee, qualifies the student to obtain the Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation. Students must attend all classes to qualify. The certificate is a one-time, lifetime certification. The fee for the course is $45 for residents and $55 for non-residents. The class is limited to the first 30 people. Fee must accompany registration. Session II will be held May 11, 13 and 18 from 6:00-9:00pm. Registration is April 26-May 7.
