IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (V.I.T.A)

The South End Community Council in collaboration with the Town of Stratford, Internal Revenue Services, and other agencies prepare income taxes for individuals and families who earn less than $66,000 annually.  This program also serves as a financial education program encouraging participants to establish checking and savings accounts, repair their credit, as well as assist those who qualify with claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit on their returns. All sites prepare taxes by appointment only.  Call (203) 377-0689 to schedule an appointment.

K-6 After School Enrichment Program

This is a licensed after-school enrichment program for students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Children receive tutoring and homework assistance, as well as other educational and recreational activities and field trips. We follow the Stratford Public School calendar and operate Monday through Friday from 3-6  pm.  There is a $60 non-refundable registration fee and monthly tuition is $280 per month.  Transportation limited to Johnson Academy, Franklin, and Nichols Schools.  Enrollment ongoing limited spaces available. Program runs through the end of the school year.  We are a Care4Kids provider. 

Summer Soiree- Summer Enrichment Program

This is a six-week summer enrichment program for children in grades K-6. Children will participate in age-appropriate, theme-based activities and weekly field trips. Program runs July to August.

Community Food Pantry

The South End Community Center offers emergency food pantry services to Stratford Residents on Wednesdays from 9:15 am-11:45 am.  All food pantry participants must show identification and/or proof of Stratford residency.  Emergency food services are also available for those individuals who receive food stamp assistance or come with an agency referral regardless of residency.  Non perishable canned goods and supermarket gift cards are needed.  Pantry is CLOSED the 1st Wednesday of every month.  Call (203) 377-0689 to make arrangements.

Coat Closet Program

The South End Community Council also provides hats, coats, gloves, and socks to individuals in need from October to March.  Interested individuals must stop by the center or get a referral from area agencies to receive merchandise from the Coat Closet.  Collaborations have been made with area agencies and businesses to assist us in gathering coats and other items needed for the coat closet.  New and slightly used donations are welcome.
