Hazard: Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Otherwise healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled ice cream back for refund. ‘Totally Cool’ has ceased production and distribution of the affected products after FDA sampling uncovered the presence of Listeria. While the company is taking preventive actions, the investigation is ongoing.
